Understanding the numbers
When reviewing job growth and salary information, it’s important to remember that actual numbers can vary due to many different factors—like years of experience in the role, industry of employment, geographic location, worker skill and economic conditions. Cited projections are based on Bureau of Labor Statistics data, not on SNHU graduate outcomes, and do not guarantee actual salary or job growth.
I really enjoyed the freedom of the online master’s program. It allowed me to focus on the work when it was most convenient for me. This program taught me digital marketing programs that I was not familiar with and that I now use regularly for work.

If you want a fast-paced career in an evolving field, then yes, a master's in digital marketing is worth it. Digital marketers are in high demand across many industries, as companies large and small aim to cash in on the power of online marketing.
In 2020, U.S. internet advertising reached $139.8 billion in revenues – a 12.2% improvement. By 2025, revenue is projected to climb to over $200 billion.2
And as new marketing technology continues to emerge, opportunities for savvy digital marketers will also grow.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), jobs for advertising, promotions and marketing managers are projected to grow 6% by 2032.1 Employment growth will vary by occupation, and the BLS predicts that workers who can navigate the digital world will have the best job prospects.1
Salaries for digital marketing professionals are also strong. The median salary for advertising and promotions managers was $131,870 in 2023.1 Marketing managers earned a median salary of $157,620 the same year.1
Pay can vary based on your industry and specific job description, as well as your level of education. Earning a master’s degree in digital marketing could boost your career and salary potential.
In 2022, all workers with master’s degrees earned a median weekly salary about 16% higher than workers with a bachelor’s degree and 65% higher than workers with an associate degree. In general, master’s degree holders also faced lower unemployment rates in 2022: just 1.9%, compared to 2.2% for bachelor’s degree holders and 2.7% for associate degree holders.1
Kathryn Gladis '16 '20G believed her MS in digital marketing was worth it.
"Education is so important," she said. "In my experience especially, this degree allowed me to fall into a role that I was more interested in and directly related to the digital marketing concentration."
Jennifer Monzón '21 agreed that it was the right move to advance her education.
"It makes you a better marketing professional and gives you the research and strategy tools you need to plan and execute a campaign or launch a product," she said.
A digital marketing master’s degree can open up a wide variety of opportunities across virtually any industry. It can give you the business, analytical and technical skills you need to succeed in this evolving field.
Danielle Upham '19 '21G earned her digital marketing master's after getting a bachelor's in social media.
"I walked into a brand-new career that I didn’t have any work experience in and now am extremely competent in digital marketing because I also studied social media marketing," she said.
The specific roles you can hold with a digital marketing master’s degree are just as varied as the fields in which you can work. You could find work in:
Of course. Digital marketing is focused on using online tools and technology to create targeted, measurable promotional campaigns. There are many opportunities to learn these strategies online.
"This was the best way for me to balance being a twin mom and being able to be an honor student," said Danielle Upham '19 '21G. "I was also able to go to school during the pandemic, which was incredible."
At SNHU, the online digital marketing master’s degree concentration explores the 3 main areas of digital marketing media: paid, owned and earned. You’ll learn about the effective applications of digital and social media activities and use data to gain key insights for better decision making.
You can also explore specific digital marketing strategies, including branding and storytelling, search engine optimization, mobile marketing, gamification and multichannel integration. Our online marketing courses are taught by faculty with years of professional experience, ensuring you can learn how to apply your online learning to real-world situations.
Õ¬ÄÐƵµÀ students at SNHU get access to a variety of virtual student services, including writing help, tutoring and academic and career advising. Virtual student clubs and organizations are also available and can offer hands-on learning opportunities to supplement your coursework.
Not only can online degree programs be more convenient, they're oftentimes less expensive.
"I welcomed the opportunity to study online," said student Tim Mucha. "I was seeking a program that would not only fit into my budget, but would also fit into my schedule. As a father of two young children and a full-time marketing professional, it would be challenging to attend in-person classes. Õ¬ÄÐƵµÀ was exactly what I was looking for, and SNHU made this easy through its program."
It depends on your university. There are many different types of online MBA degrees and on-campus programs offered from a variety of institutions, with learning opportunities across all aspects of the marketing field.
SNHU offers an MBA in Marketing, which covers key marketing topics including:
A marketing MBA provides a strong foundation in business skills, including accounting and finance, ethics and corporate culture, operations management and entrepreneurship. You’ll also gain key leadership and career skills, like communication, analysis and critical thinking.
If you dream of managing a team or want to start your own company, a marketing MBA could give you the skills you need to succeed. But if you want to focus your career on specific digital marketing fields, an MS in Marketing with a concentration in Digital Marketing may be a better fit.
The digital marketing master’s degree concentration offers key marketing and business strategy. It also dives deep into digital marketing methods that are in high demand across many industries, including:
The beauty of getting a degree online is that you can earn it on your own timeline. You decide what works best for you.
